Our Mission
To fundamentally change the way in which
health care is delivered and paid for so that: Our History and Development PIC, as it is commonly referred to, was founded as a joint venture between the United Medical Group and Saint Peters University Hospital. Begun in the mid ‘90s to integrate and improve the delivery of healthcare in the greater New Brunswick area, the Management Services Organization has been very successful in managing performance-based payor contracts, patient health advocacy, clinical informatics, and primary care practice management. Constituted as a for-profit, closely held, New Jersey corporation, the equity is held by seventy individual shareholders belonging to the United Medical Group (UMG). The hospital’s equity position was bought out by the physicians in May 2005. The United Medical Group is a professional corporation functioning as a closed panel, economically credentialed Independent Practice Association (IPA) made up of 350+ physicians. The panel is split evenly between traditional primary care and treating specialists (for the purposes of these statistics, Obstetricians/Gynecologists are considered specialists). UMG has few of the diagnostic or sub-specialties. The group has tripled in size since its inception. In addition to the original physician organization, PIC has developed unique affiliations with like-minded IPA’s in the state: The Central Jersey Physician Network (CJPN), Vista Health System, and Shore Health Group. PIC provides the clinical, and in some cases the financial, integration activities for these groups. In total, some 850 physicians are affiliated with Partners In Care. Using the techniques developed under full-risk contract management, PIC has bundled patient health advocacy, managed care administration, and medical informatics into a series of customizable product and service lines. Our customer base includes individual physician practices, large physician organizations, mid-sized employers, health plans, and benefit consultants / brokers. Working with a series of Strategic Partners, PIC has developed PartnerShIP, both a full replacement and ad-hoc series of services designed to dramatically improve health benefits offerings for self funded groups. Key components of PartnerShIP include both the PIC Health Plan Improvement Program and PartnersSelect, a targeted Physician recruitment process. PIC offers the individual physician practice a unique Managed Care Administration program that not only provides a complete review of the office processes for handling billing and collection of commercial payor claims, but represents the physician as his/her agent for managed care contracting. This agency is payor specific, and not associated in any way with the contracting performed on behalf of the larger physician organizations. The end result for the practice is a complete organization of their commercial payor agreements, the respective fee schedules, rationalized discounts based upon the marketplace, improvement of billing and collection routines, and PIC’s ongoing monitoring of payor adherence to negotiated rates. PIC has also established strategic alliances to bring to the physician offices “best of breed” vendors of services that will improve their operations or reduce their costs.
